The University Club
The University Club Website About The University Club A private full-service club located 20 minutes from downtown Columbia and the University of South Carolina, featuring: - 27 holes of championship golf - Lighted tennis courts - Resort-style swimming complex with heated jacuzzi - Two clubhouses with club grill dining - State-of-the-art golf instructional center - Fitness facilities and meeting/function rooms The University Club is home to the University of South Carolina's fighting Gamecocks' men's and women's golf teams. Our courses are best appreciated by a personal visit. Resting on 240-acres of rolling hills, there are three distinct nines, proudly named the Garnet, Black and Gold, in honor of our USC affiliation. The wide landing areas and strategically placed bunkers are lined with majestic oaks and pines. The natural elevation provides some of the highest points in Richland County, offering panoramic views. By design, the course co-exists with the environment making the serenity of nature present throughout. The large undulating Tift Eagle Bermuda greens are consistently smooth and fast and are well-protected by bunkers and collection areas. Our often photographed signature hole is a 454-yard par 4. The tee shot yields a 60-foot elevation change down to the landing area, which doglegs right, then back up the hill to the green. The Gamecock Claw is embedded in full-color in the bunker located at the corner of the dogleg. It's truly a Gamecock golf experience! The University Club is proud to have one of the largest private golf practice facilities in the South. The 30-acre facility offers players an enormous driving range and a large teeing area where there's always ample room for practice. The range has eleven greens with pin placements. Members can also enjoy our pitching green, practice sand bunker and 14,000 square-foot practice putting green. Our instructional center features computerized video lessons, demo clubs, club-fitting systems to personalize your equipment and a complete club repair operation (re-gripping, re-shafting, and loft & lie adjustments). Our very experienced instructional staff can help you straighten out your slice or help you play to your strengths with the accurate information provided by our high-tech equipment. It will take strokes off your game in no time! Members can utilize the Instructional Center with individual lessons or simply enjoy the practice range. The main clubhouse is a must-see with its panoramic view of our black nine finishing holes. Decorated with Gamecock and golf memorabilia, the Clubhouse quickly acquaints members to a sports environment. Home to the Golf Shop, the Clubhouse offers members the opportunity to purchase the latest in equipment and University Club merchandise. The Gamecock Grill, also located in the main clubhouse, is where members come together in a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a meal, socialize and watch sporting events on one of six television sets. In the late afternoons many members retire to the Cocks Nest bar for a drink on one of two decks that overlook the course. Our members have reciprocal privileges at The Summit Club. Located between the front entrance and the main clubhouse (near the entrance to the residential community) the SpringHouse is designed for the entire family. The resort-style pool area offers two large pools with a picturesque stone grotto and cascading waterfall, as well as an oversized heated outdoor spa. Three all-weather surface, lighted tennis courts are also part of the development. An exercise center is an integral part of the layout, equipped with the latest in fitness machinery, mirrors and televisions. Men's and women's lockers and steam showers are nearby. Rounding out the SpringHouse facilities is a bar & grill which overlooks the pool complex in a glass-enclosed terrace and the Garnet Room. The bar & grill is an excellent place to enjoy the view and watch in air-conditioned comfort the kids splash in the pool. The Garnet Room on the pool deck level is available for private functions and is often used for meetings, club events and children's programs and activities. University Club members enjoy many activities together. The Club offers numerous camps, swim lessons and social functions throughout the year designed for children. The entire family can participate and enjoy various family night dinners, pool-side bingo, casino nights, holiday events, adult/junior golf tournaments and activities.
