Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center
A vital part of Columbia-area tennis for over a quarter-century, Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center serves as the outdoor home of the Gamecock women's tennis team. Since 1974, fans have watched the best players college tennis has to offer compete for conference and national championships. The USC women's program moved into the spacious, on-campus facility in the fall of 1974. Previously a city-owned, clay court facility, Maxcy Gregg was turned over to USC for its sole use. Maxcy Gregg features a team locker room, players' lounge, athletic training room, office space, ample storage and seating for up to 700 fans. The women's tennis team also has access to four courts at the USC Indoor Fieldhouse over the winter months and during inclement weather during the fall and spring.
"What's nice about Maxcy Gregg and what separates it from the other women's tennis facilities in the SEC is that we have it to ourselves," head coach Arlo Elkins said. "We never have any scheduling conflicts and are able to practice when we want. Maxcy Gregg has been tremendous in the success we have achieved over the years."
Maxcy Gregg has served as the venue for several major tournaments throughout the years. The Gamecocks hosted NCAA Regionals in 1996, 1999 and 2002. South Carolina also hosted the 2002 SEC Tournament. In the fall, the Gamecocks host the Southern Intercollegiate Championships that typically feature players from over 20 schools in the region.
The Gamecocks' home courts have proven to be a crucial advantage during dual matches. Since joing the Southeastern Conference for the 1991-92 academic year, South Carolina has posted a 143-53 record at Maxcy Gregg, good for a .730 winning percentage. In SEC matches, the Gamecocks are 54-34 (.614). Last season, USC posted an 11-0 mark at home and went undefeated in home league matches for the first time in school history.
